GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS

 

1. The Canadian County Junior Livestock Show is sponsored by the Canadian County Free Fair Board, Inc., and the supervision of the show will be under their general direction.

2.     The Fair Board has adopted the policy whereby if an exhibitor is barred from showing for unethical practices at a major show, they will also be barred from showing at the County Fair and County Junior Livestock Show.

3. Animals must be fed and cared for by the exhibitor to be eligible to show in the Jr. Livestock Show and County Fair.  Animals will be subject to random checking as deemed necessary by the Vo-Ag Instructors and/or Extension Personnel.

4. All exhibitors will be limited to showing three goat wethers, three barrows, three wethers, two heifers, two prospect steers, and two market steers.  Only barrows, wethers, goat wethers and market steers are eligible for premium sale.  All animals entered must be shown unless excused by superintendent for special or logical reasons.

5. Exhibitors in this show must be bonafide members of a Canadian County 4-H club or FFA chapter, be 9 years of age and have not graduated from high school.  Must also reside in Canadian County and/or attend a school whose district is in Canadian County.

6. 4-H members must be enrolled by January 1 of the current year; the only exception being when a person becomes 9 years of age prior to the beginning of the spring show.

7. All exhibits must be bonafide property of the person in whose name the exhibit is entered. Each exhibitor must show his own animal unless he has more than one in a class. Any exception to this rule will require a request written by the exhibitor on the back of his or her entry card, signed by the exhibitor and approved by the General Superintendent.

8. No agent, parent, coaches, or instructors will be allowed in the ring while animals are being judged.

9. When entry is made barrows must have been owned 90 days prior to the Show date.  All market barrows, market wethers, market whether goats and market steers eligible for County Show and Sale must have been nominated as per Oklahoma Youth Expo guidelines.  Steers must be shown in the breed they were nominated in for the Expo Show.  All animals exhibited must have been under the personal daily care of the exhibitor for the designated number of days.

10. No agent, parent, coaches or instructors will be allowed in the ring while market lambs are being classified.  Lambs presented for classification will be slick shorn.  Decision of classifier is final.

11. Grand Champion Market winners may compete for Showmanship Award in the livestock division in which he/she won Grand Champion. Individual must be an exhibitor in that particular division to compete for Showmanship Award.

12.   The superintendents of the beef, swine, sheep and goat divisions shall have the authority to check the nomination list to make sure animals are shown as nominated for the Expo Show. 

13.   Tooth rule for steers will be the same as OKC Spring Show, permanent incisors not up and in wear.

14.   All market lamb wethers will be shown slick shorn.  No wool above knees or hocks.

15.   Dress code for Spring Show will be as follows:                

Goats – No paint or changing of color characteristics

Sheep – No paint or changing of color characteristics

Swine – Water only, no paint or dye

Beef – Both Beef Shows (Jr. Livestock & County Fair) will be blow and   show only, no adhesives, paint, colored foam or boning aids allowed.

16. Show order for goats will be – market wethers, Grand and Reserve Grand drive, Sale Order lineup, Showmanship contest, School Groups. 

17. Show order for sheep will be - market wethers, Grand and Reserve Grand drive, Sale Order lineup, Showmanship contest, School groups.

18. Show order for swine will be - market barrows, Grand and Reserve Grand drive, Sale Order lineup, Showmanship contest, School groups.

19. Show order for beef will be - heifers, prospect steers, market steers, Grand and Reserve Grand, Sale Order lineup, Showmanship contest, School groups.

20. All exhibitors are asked to keep stalls and pens clean and place litter where designated by superintendents.

21. Only exhibitors, vo-ag instructors, Extension personnel, parents, family, other exhibitors, and alumni of county programs will be allowed to groom.

22. Each beef exhibitor will be required to use tie-down grooming chutes.

23. Each club will be responsible for tagging their own swine with Pseudo-Rabies ear tags and these tags will be required at all Fair and Stock Shows.

GUIDELINES CONCERNING EXHIBITION OF

LIVESTOCK IN CANADIAN COUNTY

1. Once an exhibitor begins showing a livestock project in one organization he/she may not exhibit the same project in the other organization during the same academic year.

2. Exhibitors with more than one species of livestock will be allowed to show in both 4-H and FFA provided they have an FFA and 4-H Dual Membership Permissive Agreement completed and turned in to the Extension Center by October 15.  (Ex.: An exhibitor may show one species of livestock in one organization and another separate species in the other organization.)

3. Any changes in project designation relating to organization must be done between the academic years (Summer Break).

1. Any boy or girl may enroll as a 4-H member in Oklahoma after they have reached their ninth birthday. Boys and girls may remain in 4-H as members providing they have not passed their nineteenth birthday before Jan. 1 of the year in which they participate or until Jan. 1 following graduation from high school, whichever occurs first. This membership is not dependent upon race, color, national origin, sex, religion, marital status, place of residence, or membership in any other organization. An individual who meets these requirements and properly completes a 4-H enrollment card or whose name appears on the enrollment file in the County Extension Center is considered a bonafide 4-H member.

2. To be eligible to exhibit, 4-H members must be enrolled by January 1 of  the current year; the only exception being when a person becomes  9 years of age after January 1 but prior to the beginning of the spring show.

3. Any boy or girl who has been barred from participation in a specific activity or event as a member of any other organization will not be eligible to represent their county as a 4-H member in that activity or event on a district, county or statewide basis.

 

 

ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY

 

1. Youth who have been declared ineligible to participate in extracurricular activities by their local school administration will be declared ineligible to participate in this show.

2. If an exhibitor is considered ineligible to participate in the show for any reason, including rules of the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activity Association, (OSSAA), the animals owned by the exhibitor are also ineligible for the show.

3. Ineligible youth who participate in the show will forfeit all show and/or sales premiums and awards; and will be subject to disciplinary action as provided by the local school policies.

4. It will be the responsibility of the local school administration to notify the student's family and the show management or OSSAA if a particular student is ineligible to participate.

PROTESTS AND APPEALS

 

 

Section 1. All protests must be made in writing and accompanied by a deposit of $25 which deposit will be forfeited if protest is not sustained. Said protest must state plainly the cause of the complaint or appeal, and must be filed with the secretary within five (5) hours after the award was made, it being considered the award was made when ribbon premium card was placed.

Section 2. No complaint or appeal based upon the statement that the judge or judges are incompetent or have overlooked an animal or article, will be considered by the management.

Section 3. The right of an exhibitor to appeal from the decision of a judge to the Board of Directors will lie only when it is charged that the award has been made in violation of the rules governing the exhibit; or when it is charged that the decision of the judge has been influenced or interfered with by another.

Section 4. Appeals from the decision of a judge or superintendent in charge must be made in writing, and must contain at least one specific charge stating at length the facts relied upon or the rule violated, and having witnesses and their addresses by whom proof is to be made.

Section 5. All questions or disputes or differences not provided for under the rules shall be referred to the Board of Directors whose decision shall be final.

Section 6. In addition to the right to protest herein guaranteed to exhibitors, the Board of Directors reserve the right to take cognizance of fraud consummated or attempted in connection with an exhibit and take such action as may be deemed just and proper and as may be warranted in the premises.

 

ALL PRIZE PREMIUMS WILL BE PAID BY CHECK FROM THE OFFICE OF THE CANADIAN COUNTY FAIR BOARD AND EXHIBITORS SHOULD RECEIVE THEM IN ABOUT ONE WEEK.

HERDSMAN AWARD

 

All areas will be inspected daily Saturday through Tuesday. Each FFA Chapter or 4-H Club will be graded on a point basis.  An award of $100 will be presented in each category; Sheep, Goats, Swine and Beef, to the group with the highest overall score.

 

1.           Cleanliness and orderliness of the service areas, stalls, pens, animals and public walkways.

 

2.           Exhibit set-up, appearance, decorations, identification, etc.

 

3. Personal appearance of attendants.

 

4. Cooperation with show officials in presenting attractive exhibits.

 

5. Cooperation with officials with the conduct of all show activities.

 

6. Exhibitors working on projects and exhibit areas.

 

7. Final judging will be made after release of livestock.

 

8. No feeding in wash racks, aisles or vacant pens.

SHOWMANSHIP AWARD

 

Showmanship jackets and plaques will be presented to Junior, Intermediate and Senior winners in Beef, Swine, Sheep and Goat Divisions.  Junior Division will be from 9–12 years of age, Intermediate Division will be 13–15 years of age and Senior Division will be 16-18 years of age. Showmanship awards will be based on the following:

 

(1) Appearance and response of animals exhibited.

(2) Appearance and ability to exhibit in the show ring.

(3) Courtesy in the ring to fellow exhibitors.

Registration papers will not be required.  No Billies will be allowed to show.  All meat goats must resemble a Boer or be a member of a meat goat breed.  There must be 10 or more market goats to have a show.  Market goat show exhibitors must be in 4-H or FFA.  All goats will be weighed and divided into divisions preferably no more than 8 to a class.  Wethers under 50 pounds will not be accepted.  Maximum weight for goats is 150 pounds.

GENERAL RULES OF PREMIUM AUCTION SALE

1. The 38th Annual Premium Auction Sale will be held at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at the Canadian County Fairgrounds.

2. The Auction Sale Steering Committee named in this publication shall have complete jurisdiction over the sale and their decisions will be final in regard to matters or questions that may arise during the course of the show and sale.

3. During the selection of animals for the sale the only individuals allowed to be in the ring will be the judge, exhibitors, superintendents and Auction Steering Committee members.

4. Only one animal per exhibitor will be allowed to sell in the AUCTION SALE.

5. 5 Goats, 15 Steers, 20 Wethers and 35 Barrows will be sold for a total of 75 animals.

6. Sale order will be determined immediately following the Grand Drive of that species. All animals called for Show Order must show when called.

7. The Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champions of the beef, swine, sheep and goat divisions are the only animals automatically eligible for the sale. All others will be shown for sale order and selected on quality.

8. Once an exhibitor has an animal selected for sale, all other animals of that species owned by that exhibitor shall be scratched and not be eligible for sale order.

9. If an exhibitor wishes to scratch a sale animal for the sale order lineup, he may do so by notifying the General Superintendent, Brad Tipton, within one-half hour after beef sale order.

10. Check for premium sale and bonus will be mailed within a few days after sale.  $26 will be withheld for pictures.

11. Person signing sales slip will be responsible for money being collected.

12. Sale Order this year will be Goats, Sheep, Beef & Swine.
